Algal culturist position

Taylor Resources Inc., a subsidiary of Taylor Shellfish Farms, Inc., operates a large commercial bivalve hatchery that produces both larvae and seed of several species, including oysters, manila clams, mussels, and geoduck clams for the commercial shellfish industry. The parent company, Taylor Shellfish Farms, Inc. is the largest shellfish producer on the West Coast of North America. The hatchery facility serves mainly to supply Taylor Shellfish Inc. with the larvae and seed stocks needed to supply their extensive grow out beds in Washington State and British Columbia. Description: Work with batch and semi-continuous (bag culture) production algal techniques to meet the needs of a large shellfish hatchery and nursery facility. Will be working closely with the algal production manager and other algal technicians and must be able to work on all aspects of algal culture. This includes using sterile techniques required to maintain and propagate algal stocks but also being able to work on much bigger volume batch culture. Will need to grow multiple species of algae to meet nutritional needs of larvae and seed production. Qualification: Prefer a science and marine background. Prefer micro-algal culture and/or microbiology background. Must be proficient with sterile techniques. Must be self-motivated, organized, have excellent time management skills, and be comfortable with multitasking. Must be able to work and think independently, and as part of a team. Must be able to lift 50lbs without difficulty and work in a physically challenging environment. Benefits: Wage of $ 15.00 per hour.
